Juniper Bahr, Ph.D.

Hi, I'm June! I completed a Ph.D. in Mathematics at UCLA in 2024, as well as a B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics at Carnegie Mellon in 2017. I've been teaching and tutoring math since 2017.

I tutor remotely and in-person in Detroit. Email me at junipertutoring@fastmail.com if you're interested!

I can tutor just about any math subject from middle school up through college, and several graduate-level subjects as well.

A little about me!

I like birds, and in my spare time I like to knit (mostly socks and mittens). My pronouns are whatever you find most difficult or need practice with (have fun! and see my explanation if you're confused).

Graduate School

My advisor was Dimitri Shlyakhtenko, and my research was in operator algebras, specifically dealing with with planar algebras. I also did some work in (non-commutative) optimal transport.

In graduate school I helped organize the Math Queer Tea for LGBTQIA+ (and allied!) math grad students and postdocs at UCLA. If you want to talk about being queer in school, or just want to chat about gender, please reach out! This offer extends to everyone, not just folks affiliated with a university.

Expository

Here I'll post a few course-non-specific documents that may help explain some math concepts for students.
